Barton, PhD
Chief
Scientific Officer
Expert in Receptor-based Drug Development.
Dr. Barton was most recently the Director of In-vitro Cardiovascular
Researchat Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Ridgefield,
CT. There he was responsible for establishing in vitro drug
discovery in cardiovascular research with a partial focus
on exploiting immune & inflammatory mechanisms. His work
encompassed therapeutic target identification, evaluation,
validation, & implementation involving molecular, biochemical
& cellular research for lead optimization of both small
molecules and biological drug candidates. Before this, he
was Director of a group responsible for gene therapy, monoclonal
antibody, and biological drug discovery involving target ID,
validation & implementation. This work encompassed both
in vitro and in vivo lead optimization & evaluation. Prior
to this, his work in immunological and inflammatory diseases
involved both small molecule and monoclonal antibody drug
candidates targeting tyrosine kinases, proteases and cell
surface molecules involved in leukocyte activation an migration.
Dr. Barton holds 5 US patents and has 3 patent applications
in progress. He has over 60 scientific publications. He has
served in the military in the Department of Gastroenterology
at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. He holds a
